Could you write a love letter to your own body?

Wow, I never realized the YMCA could ever be like this. This is far more than swim suits and summercamp. This is some serious life changing stuff going on!

Part of my homework for the Journey to Healthy Living class last week was to write a love letter to my body. What do you like about your body? Work head to toe. I don’t know how long I sat and pondered what I might say. Then I stared at that piece of paper even longer.

I realized the things coming out of my mind were really negative statements conveniently wrapped up in a positive. My calves aren’t as fat as they used to be…. Everything isn’t as bad as it ‘used to be.’ I suppose that was my way of saying I had made progress in looking better but at the very core, I still don’t like my body.

I have a nice butt…. There… I said it… I have broad shoulder and a barrel chest. Is that good or bad? I didn’t write down much in my letter and it forced me to look even deeper into my own mind.

Can I change? Yes. Can YOU change? That depends entirely on your mindset. Do you BELIEVE you can change? Start there. The thought that we will never be able to change is a LIE! The most difficult part of change is getting started and the belief that we are incapable of change keeps people frozen in place.

We truly defeat ourselves. Why?

How about personal responsibility. You are ultimately responsible for your own actions. It can be incredibly self-defeating to abdicate responsibility. Don’t do that. Take back that power and responsibility to change.

How about feeling alone? Truly, truly I say to you… You are never alone! How many billions of people are there on the planet? To think no one else is going through the same things is absurd. There are more people like you and me and they’re dealing with the same things. There’s strength in numbers.

Personally, I’m taking the Journey to Healthy Living class. I can say, even after two weeks, the class has far exceeded my expectations. There’s some deep stuff here that I’ve never had to explore even as a health professional!

Additionally, I’m sponsoring a screening of the film EMBRACE at the Lakewood Town Center theaters. I want people to see this film and start a dialog. Social media, screen and print have done a royal job on our mindset. We need to expose this and make a change. Check out the trailer at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsfs5POp0aQ

Do one thing today…. Reserve your tickets TODAY and let’s start a conversation:
